Cash Transaction Best Practices

Occasionally, Sellers or Buyers will only want to use cash.

In-person cash transactions, we believe, increase the risk to personal safety by bringing cash, goods and people to the same location at the same time. Even with security cameras present, this does not guarantee the safety of the parties involved. Before Nimble Station, cash transactions could only be conducted in person, and if not in person, cash would typically be left at someone’s home or at an unsecured location.

Nimble Stations provide a secure, third-party location for physical separation and time separation from the transaction, which we believe makes Nimble Stations a superior means of conducting cash transactions. Of course, even though we provide for a secure, third-party location, Nimble Station cannot guarantee Sellers against loss(es).

On the other hand, some of our registered subscribers use Nimble Stations to sell things to people for cash with great success. We have used their input, in conjunction with our company policies, to put together the following Cash Transaction Best Practices.

1.  Shipping cash is prohibited.  See our Terms and Conditions.

2.  Transactions using large amounts of cash should not be conducted using a Nimble Station.  In these cases, we recommend that transactions occur at secure locations provided for that purpose, and with additional, trusted witnesses present.

3.  Disguise cash by placing it in a box and then placing the box in a bag.  Avoid using envelopes without using a box and bag as recommended.

4.  Conduct all cash transaction actions, whether leaving cash or picking it up, during daytime hours and when there are other people present.

5. Typically, Sellers willing to take cash will leave their sale item(s) in the Station once a Buyer has committed. In this case, the Seller accepts the risk of loss, and the Seller MUST leave a box (for example, a shoe box) labelled “Please Leave Cash In This Box”, alongside the item(s) for sale, inside the Biquix Station. (Alternately, a block of wood labelled “Please Leave Cash Under This Block” also works well.) The box or block, which remains inside the Station, signals the system that the cubby is still in use and enables the Seller to retrieve the cash after the Buyer has departed. When the Seller retrieves the cash, they also remove the box or block in order to free the station for others to use.

6.  The Seller should instruct the Buyer to send notification immediately when the cash is dropped off and the Seller should retrieve the cash as soon as possible after receiving notification from the Buyer in order to minimize the time that cash is awaiting pick up. The Seller will use the same code to retrieve the cash that was originally received and sent to the Buyer (see Seller Tips for additional info.)
